Discovering … Defining your WHY, and understanding why
you're going to spend the time to build your own business,
is one of the most important exercises you'll do.

If your business is going to become part of what you do…
if your business is going to make a substantial
contribution your dreams, then you must have a clear
understanding of WHY you are starting a business in the
first place.

Your WHY is what it truly means to get what you want.

So to help you define your WHY, ask yourself these
questions:

1. What do I value most?
2. What kind of life do I want?
3. What kind of a person do I want to become?
4. How many other people, would I like to help?
5. What would I do?
6. Where would I live?
7. What car would I drive?
8. Where would my kids go to school?
9. Where would I go for vacations?

The reasons for being in your own business must be
compelling. It will be what drives you to get up in the
morning. It is what gives you the purpose and energy, to
accomplish your daily tasks, even if it takes you past your
bedtime.

One thing that you should expect is that at some point you
will encounter the adversity of rejection or negativity.
Sometimes people try to project their failures or even
other people's failure on you, in their eyes they are
trying to help their friend. They will try to deter you
from building your business. I refer to these people as
dream stealers! They try to steal your dreams away from
you, and unfortunately, many of these dream stealers are
family members and friends.
Like I said their intentions are not bad. They just worry
about you. They are too fearful themselves, to step out of
their self-imposed limitations, so they don't want you to
prove them wrong.
People also don't like change! Changes scare them. In
life, however, a lot of times it takes something drastic to
change in order for us to grow. Change truly is our
friend… Change is Opportunity!
Don't reject people for not believing in your dreams.
After all they are still family. However, don't let them
pull you down! So, just be pleasant. Follow this rule
closely, and you will never loose friends because of your
business. When they see that you are holding strong to
your WHY you can actually build a support team that is
happy for you whether they participate in your business or
not.

Examples of WHYs could be:

=> To be able to stay at home to raise your kids yourself.

=> To retire your spouse from his/her job and be able to
work your business together.

=> To spend more quality time together with family and
loved ones.

=> To take care of your parents.

=> Pay off credit card bills that are stealing your and
your children's future.

=> To send your kids to a private school and be able to
afford the best education possible for them.

=> To create an income that will allow you to give back to
your community, church, charities, etc.

Keep yourself focused on your WHY.

Your WHY is what will take you beyond any negativity. It
will strengthen your conviction in what you're doing.
Write it down. When you are working your business, have it
within view. You should see it frequently and be constantly
reminded WHY you are building this business.
You may want to share this with your business partner or
mentor, and also with your spouse/partner. When getting
started, it's often beneficial to be accountable to
someone. This will keep you moving in the right direction.

developing your action plan.
